Nintendo Raises Switch 2 First-Year Global Sales Forecast to 19 Million Units

Japanese gaming giant Nintendo has announced in its latest financial report that it is raising its global sales forecast for the next-generation console Switch 2 to 19 million units for the first year — up 4 million from the previous estimate of 15 million. The revision reflects the console’s continued strong market momentum since its launch in June, successfully extending the sales success of its predecessor.

Launched in June this year, the Switch 2 is one of Nintendo’s most expensive hardware products ever. As of the end of September, cumulative sales had surpassed 10 million units, reaching 10.36 million. Although third-quarter sales of 4.54 million units marked a slight slowdown from its launch period, Nintendo emphasized that overall performance remained robust. Toyo Securities analyst Hideki Yasuda noted that exceeding 10 million units in the first half of the fiscal year “greatly surpassed market expectations.”

Driven by strong hardware sales, Nintendo reported outstanding results for the second fiscal quarter:

Revenue: ¥527.2 billion (about US$3.7 billion), higher than the LSEG estimate of ¥461.76 billion, representing over 90% year-on-year growth.

Net Profit: ¥102.9 billion, far exceeding expectations of ¥63.6 billion — a year-on-year increase of more than 270%.

Based on this strong momentum, the Kyoto-based company also raised its full-year financial forecast. Nintendo now expects:

Net sales: ¥2.25 trillion (previously ¥1.9 trillion)

Net profit: ¥350 billion (up about 17%)

Operating profit: ¥370 billion (up 16%)

In software, “Mario Kart World” and “Donkey Kong Bonanza” have proven to be the most popular titles since the Switch 2’s release, helping Nintendo achieve 11.95 million software units sold this quarter. The company continues to rely on its strategy of sustaining console demand through key franchise titles.

Newly released games include “Pokémon Legends: Z-A” and its bundled console version, while “Kirby Air Riders” and “Metroid Prime 4: Beyond” are also scheduled for release later this year. Leveraging its unique gaming ecosystem and iconic IPs, Nintendo continues to maintain a leading position in the highly competitive console market, and the strong performance of Switch 2 has brought a positive signal for the global gaming industry.
