On April 7, Changchun Film Group Corporation (CFGC) and Hungary’s Image Asia Ltd. signed a Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement in Budapest, marking a new chapter of in-depth collaboration in film projects, marketing, and other fields. The partnership aims to promote coordinated development between the film industries of China and Hungary.

CFGC, widely known as the cradle of New China’s cinema, is the first large-scale state-owned film production base in the country. With a history spanning 80 years, CFGC has grown into a key pillar of China’s film development and one of the nation’s largest and most influential modern film groups. It has played a significant role in both witnessing and driving the progress of Chinese cinema. With rich cultural heritage, outstanding creative capacity, and a diversified industrial structure, CFGC stands as a shining symbol of Chinese film.
As early as 1952, CFGC dubbed the Hungarian film Underground Colony into Chinese, followed by over 20 Hungarian titles such as Anna Szabó, Fire, Two Worlds, Baptism by Fire, Revolutionary Doctor, and Rookie on the Field.
This latest signing is seen as a renewed bond between two renowned film enterprises, and a cinematic dialogue that spans seven decades. According to reports, CFGC and Image Asia Ltd. will jointly promote cultural exchange and integration through film. By sharing resources, the two companies aim to drive collaborative development in the film industry and enhance their international competitiveness. Looking ahead, both sides will focus their strengths to explore broad cooperation opportunities in future film projects.
China is Hungary’s largest trading partner outside of Europe, while Hungary remains one of China’s key trade partners in Central and Eastern Europe. Industry insiders believe that film is not only a vital part of the cultural industry but also a powerful medium for cultural exchange. This agreement is expected to inject new momentum into cultural cooperation and exchange between the two countries.
