Vietnam’s Industrial Production Index Up 7.2% Year-on-Year in January-February 2025

The Ministry of Industry and Trade reported that Vietnam’s Industrial Production Index (IIP) in the first two months of 2025 increased by 7.2% year-on-year (compared to 6.5% in the same period in 2024). The manufacturing and processing sector rose by 9.3% (6.6% in the same period in 2024), contributing 7.9 percentage points to the overall growth. Electricity production and distribution grew by 2.3% (13.7% in the same period in 2024), contributing 0.2 percentage points. Water supply, waste and wastewater management activities increased by 8.0% (1.4% in the same period in 2024), contributing 0.1 percentage points. Meanwhile, the mining sector declined by 6.4% (a 1.9% drop in the same period in 2024), pulling down the overall growth by 1.0 percentage points.  

Several key secondary industries saw significant year-on-year IIP growth, including: motor vehicle production (up 53.5%), leather and related products (up 22.5%), bed, cabinet, table, and chair production (up 19.8%), apparel (up 15.3%), wood processing and bamboo/wood products (up 12.5%), textiles (up 12.2%), other transport equipment (up 12.1%), rubber and plastic products (up 11.3%), electronics, computers, and optical products (up 9.5%), and food processing (up 7.4%). On the other hand, some industries experienced declines, such as crude oil and natural gas extraction (down 12.0%), pharmaceuticals and medicinal chemicals (down 10.4%), coke and refined petroleum products (down 3.6%), tobacco (down 2.8%), and electrical equipment (down 1.7%)
